Cimplifi Conversations | Featuring Jason Richardson

We know the importance of building a company and culture that empowers people to thrive. We offer an environment where you can make an impact and grow and be recognized for the value you deliver.

Welcome to our series, Cimplifi Conversations, where we recognize a team member honoring our company values – courageous, reliable, inventive, and adaptable. At Cimplifi, we believe in empowering our people and providing opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Recently, Amy Hinzmann, president of Cimplifi, sat down to chat with Jason Richardson, project manager, contract analytics & lifecycle management (CALMTM). Jason is new to the team, joining in January of this year and in his role, Jason oversees all aspects of a client’s project from building and validating custom AI models to reporting, sales calls, and developing CLM workflows. We hope you enjoy learning more about Jason and seeing what makes the employee experience at Cimplifi special to him.

Amy: Hi Jason, I’m excited to speak with you today! To get us started, why don’t you tell me where you grew up and where you are based now.

Jason: Both of my parents served in the Air Force for 20+ years, so I grew up all over the country.  I was born in Italy and then we moved to New York where my sister was born.  We then spent four years in Germany and then four years in Louisiana, then five years in Utah, and settled in Georgia.  I have been in the Atlanta area for a little over 20 years.

A: Wow! What an interesting childhood experience that must have been for you! And how did you end up at Cimplifi?

J: I implemented DocuSign CLM and Insights in my previous role and that work was noticed on LinkedIn by a recruiter who presented this opportunity to me.  After meeting the team and doing some due diligence, it seemed like a great opportunity for me to join the Cimplifi team.

A: We are certainly glad you landed here! I’d love to know how you got into this industry and what or who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

J: Most of my career was spent working for medium to large law firms where the environment is very process heavy and driven by deadlines.  When I transitioned to the corporate side, I noticed there was a lot of room for process improvement or, in some cases, process implementation.  When I began standing up and refining processes to increase efficiencies within my organization, it was quickly noticed, and I was promoted to contracts manager.  It was during this time that I was introduced to the world of CLM.  My manager at that time, I call her my Ted Lasso, really saw me for who I was as an employee and person and helped me see the value I bring to an organization.  When she and I were working together on implementing our CLM solution, she took note of my skills and showed me that I could thrive in a management setting, be it contract management or project management.  So, I listened and have been in those roles ever since.

A: What an amazing manager to have worked with! One of our main goals right now is to educate people on just this issue – how can you take the skills you have and apply them to new opportunities as the business evolves, particularly the legal ops industry, evolves. Speaking of upleveling your career, are there any Cimplifi resources you have been able to take advantage of?

J: Because we are a platinum partner with DocuSign, I have taken full advantage of DocuSign University.  I think I have earned 12 accreditations since joining in January.  I love to learn, especially when the content directly applies to my job and increasing the likelihood of success.

A: Twelve accreditations in seven months is impressive, congrats! I am a lifelong learner too and it is one of the values I try to pass on to my kids as well. Now that we are on the subject of values, which of our company values do you connect with most?

J:  Courage.  My past work experience has taught me to speak up when an issue arises.  People will thank you for hearing about a potential issue sooner rather than later.  Do not be afraid to ask questions when you do not understand something.  Chances are someone else has the exact same question.  Lastly, do not run from difficult conversations.  Create a safe space to have those challenging conversations and be clear in your communications.  #cleariskind

A: I love Brene Brown and that is one of my favorite mantras! Given your experience and the growth in your career, how have you also been able to grow professionally at Cimplifi?

J: I have drastically increased my knowledge of what is possible with CLM and analytics.  I feel seen and valued based on the conversations I have with my leaders and see a path for growth.

A: I love to hear that, Jason! What do you think is the most unique part of working here?

J: How accessible leadership is to the entire company.  I see them on our daily huddles and am working a few projects with some of them.  I like that we are led by real people, and they welcome honest feedback.

A: Transparency and accessibility is one of our common leadership goals so it’s awesome to hear that you feel we are achieving that! I’d love to know how you think employees are empowered to shape or participate in company culture?

J: If you want to join the diversity and inclusion committee, the door is open.  If you want to start a book club, go for it.  If you have an idea that you think will bring value to the organization, you are empowered to make it happen.  There is real freedom here to do what you love.

A: Speaking of doing what you love, what would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

J: I was never good at answering the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?”  I love talking to people and seeing new places.  If I could travel and audit resorts, I would pack my bags and leave tonight.

A: One of my favorite things to learn about is how people balance their personal and professional lives – tell me yours!

J: I am a big fan of the fake commute – make my coffee and go for a brief walk.  This lets me know I am heading to work, and it is time to focus.  On the opposite side of the day, as soon as I log off, I go make dinner.  The act of preparing a meal is like my commute for me.  That is when I let my mind wind down and focus on just being at home with my family.

A: The fake commute – I love that! I can see how allowing yourself to take that time really helps you prepare and decompress from the day. Let’s wrap up today with three words to best describe you.

J: Communicator. Kind. Persistent.

A: It’s been great speaking with you, and I loved hearing more about you and your experience at Cimplifi. Thanks, Jason!
